MTV VMA 2020 Lady Gaga and BTS win big. show dedicated to Chadwick Boseman.

 


With five wins for Gaga that evening, only Beyoncé (24) and Madonna (20) had her 18th VMA career.

Weekly's "Dazzling Lights" won the video at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year. 

Lady Gaga won the most awards that evening, followed by Ariana Grande and Bulletproof Boy Scouts, each with four.

In addition to the three awards she shared with Gaga, Grande won best music video from home—for “Stuck With U,” her collab with Justin Bieber.

Bulletproof Boy Scouts received three awards for their song "On", which included Best Pop (unexpectedly "Rain on Me"), Best K-Pop and Best choreography (Songdeok Son, Gaheon Lee, Byeongeun Lee). This group also won the best group. Best K-pop Group, Best Group 2 wins in a row.

Taylor Swift took the very best direction for the feminist theme of "TheMan" (she personally directed it). Swift is the third artist best cast without a co-director. she followed Beck, who won The New Pollution (1997), and Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who won the Make Some Noise trio (2011). In addition, Swift is the second woman (artist or not) to be named Best Director without a co-director. She followed the winning Melina Matsukas to watch Beyonce Formation (2016).

Doja Cat has been awarded Best New Artist by Chime Banking. The Los Angeles-based singer and rapper is the third artist in a row to receive a New Artist Award. Billie Eilish (another Los Angeles native) won last year. Cardi B won in 2018. Coldplay chose the best rock for orphans. This is the second group championship since Paradise eight years ago. The VMA awarded this award every year from 1989 to 1998 (it was originally declared the best postmodern video) but has withdrawn until this year.

Miley Cyrus’ “Mother’s Daughter” won two technical awards—best art direction (Christian Stone) and best editing (Alexandre Moors, Nuno Xico).
